Braces aren’t the only way to treat overbite, underbite, crowded teeth, and other common bite challenges. At Mission Dental in Houston, Texas, Leslie Trinh, DDS, offers SureSmile® and ClearCorrect®, two of the top-rated clear aligner systems for braces-free teeth straightening. Clear aligners like SureSmile and ClearCorrect are virtually invisible custom molds that move your teeth in prescribed ways, based on your treatment plan.
If you have malocclusion problems normally treated with braces, such as an overbite or crowded teeth, clear aligners could give you the desired results without braces.
Wear your clear aligners for approximately 22 hours a day. Always remove your aligners for meals and snacks, and take them out when you brush and floss your teeth.
Clean your aligners every night. Usually, a soft toothbrush and cool water are enough to clean your aligners. Dr. Trinh may also recommend using a nonabrasive toothpaste and/or special cleaning solutions to keep your aligners clean.
Dr. Trinh tells you how often to switch aligners. Usually, you start wearing a new pair of clear aligners either weekly or every two weeks.
Dr. Trinh personalizes all treatment plans, so it really depends on your needs. Most people wear their clear aligners for a total treatment time of 12-24 months.
Some factors that could extend your treatment time include new jaw bone growth, not wearing your aligners enough, missing adjustment appointments, and failing to fix broken aligners.
You come in to Mission Dental about once every six weeks so Dr. Trinh can monitor your treatment and make any aligner adjustments you might need. The visits are pain-free and take only a few minutes.
After completing your clear aligner treatment, you transition into retainer wear in most cases. Mission Dental offers clear retainers that let you continue the metal-free approach to perfecting your smile.
You usually wear a retainer full time for up to six months and then start wearing it only overnight. Continue your periodic retainer check-ups as recommended (usually a couple of times a year) until Dr. Trinh gives you the go-ahead to stop wearing retainers completely.
Sticking to a strict retainer schedule is the ideal way to keep your teeth straight after clear aligner treatment.
